Student Health Coverage

By Ethan Kalvin

For students that are unsure of their ability to afford proper medical insurance, more tax credits and personal health savings accounts may be the solution they are looking for. It is not certain if a proposal of this sort would amount to anything or the exact impact it would have on students, however the HCTC (Health Coverage Tax Credit) is already available and this allows the parents to provide health care while their children are being educated. Many larger universities, also offer student health insurance plans.

Many fell that the clinicians who work at a university clinic are either rookies or do not know what they are talking about. The fact of the matter is that these physicians are qualified and have seen situations that prepare them and give them the necessary experience needed to provide health care while on campus.

Some students prefer the private sector to the universities clinics. If this is the case there are insurance companies that will provide you with coverage, if you meet their criteria; you must be self employed, have a solid work history and be in fairly good health. The problem with this is that most self employed individuals find it hard to set time aside to research the proper health coverage.

When you add the school work load on top of a self employed individuals responsibilities, this is an even greater issue. Many students are so over worded that they do not get proper sleep and continue to put off a doctors visit. This can be dangerous if a true medical issue is involved and not caught in time.

The health care industry understands this and will do everything they can to make sure that the process of finding a plan is not too time consuming and burdensome. They want to make sure that the plan is accessible and is the right fit for your health care needs as a student who may be self employed or only able to hold down a part time job.
