Shopping Online for Medicare Supplement Insurance is Easier Than Ever!

By Derrick Johnson

Changes in the senior insurance market are taking place due to modern technology. Retirees are going online prior to making a purchase to research products. Making a decision in a no pressure environement is the goal for most seniors.

Medigap Insurance is considered to be a simple product to understand. These plans were standardized by the government in the 1990's. Plans were assigned a specific letter. The letters A-L were created and assigned to each of these 12 plan choices. Each plan assigned a similar letter does exactly the same thing.

Seniors were considered for many years to lack the confidence and education to make financial decisions without assistance. This stereotype was never accurate but many retirees believed it. This is no longer true.

As the baby boomers started aging into their retirement years at the same time as the advent of the Internet, a more confident and educated senior has evolved. Modern seniors find it offensive to be considered old or uneducated. This new savvy group of seniors has taken it upon themselves to learn before they purchase and the Internet provides the best opportunity for them to do so.

Medigap Insurance is the perfect product to allow the senior to venture into the area of self-education. As mentioned above, Medicare Supplement Insurance is a simple product and a myriad of information can be found via Google, Yahoo or any other Internet browser. The Internet allows an anonymous way to seek and learn in a pressure free environment.

Although the days of the insurance agent hawking his products while drinking a cup of coffee at the seniors kitchen table may be over, the need for an educated advisor are certainly not over. Because of the world we live in today, changes in the Medicare and Medigap market take place frequently and rapidly. A good senior advisor will understand the needs of the more educated senior and listen to their questions all the while providing them with information on upcoming changes that the client may be unaware of.

Baby boomers are now using email to communicate, they are "tweeting" with their friends and family and developing confidence in the Internet. What better product than Medigap insurance to practice their new online shopping skills?
